Hiking Holy Jim Falls!

On Saturday, March 21st we did Holy Jim Falls hike.
http://www.localhikes.com/hikes/holyjimfalls_4472.asp First you have to take a dirt road 4 1/2 miles out of Trabucco Canyon into the Cleveland National Forest. It was actually a very rutted, rocky road. Our friend Todd very graciously offered to drive Theresa, me and our dogs Maggie and Daytona to the trail head. Maggie and Daytona have a new best friend - Todd. They had no problem jumping into the back of the land rover and just new adventure was just around the corner. Thank goodness they don't get car sick over such a bumpy road.

The hike was 1 3/4 miles out and back plus we added another mile or so toward Santiago peak. There were lots of wild flowers and we crossed the stream at least 7 times. It was funny how us humans would carefully pick our way across the stream trying to step on rocks and not get wet, but the dogs just bounded across smiling the whole time. Hmmm... I wonder if Todd is concerned about muddy dogs in the back of his SUV?
It was a gorgeous day, not to hot and not cold at all. I think it was a perfect time to go. Here are our photos:

Kayak North Coast Laguna

I've always wanted to go Kayaking. My friend Theresa talked me into a guided trip to see the sea lions on the North Coast of Laguna. We found an adventure company, http://www.lavidalaguna.com/kayaktours.html who had tours every day. We met at 10:00 a.m. off Cliff Drive in North Laguna. Theresa, her husband and daughter and I all climbed aboard two person ocean kayaks. Our very pretty, competent guide, Laura and another out of town guest, Dillon pushed off and paddled north to the Sea Lion Rocks. The water was a bit cold (about 60 degrees), but soon we were paddling and didn't notice our wet seats. Laura knew just the right time to push off between the sets of waves on out of fisherman's cove. Theresa's daughter, Jessy was my very able paddling partner. Here's our photos:
